Where Jewish learning meets the hands.

art&torah is a creative studio in Tel Aviv. We teach Jewish tradition through art, in the rhythm of the Jewish year.

Two things that belong together.

Jewish learning and art-making have always been close. The illuminated manuscripts, the embroidered parochet, the silver of a Kiddush cup — these aren't decorations on top of Jewish life. They're the texture of it. We started art&torah because we kept noticing how the best Jewish learning we'd done was the kind that asked us to make something.

Our practice is simple. Every month of the Jewish calendar carries its own weight — its own story, its own mood, its own color. We follow that rhythm. Kids paint healing in Iyar, blessing in Sivan, careful presence in Tammuz. Adults gather over wine in the evening to read a verse and make in response to it. People drop in to the open studio whenever they have an hour.

No one needs an art background. No one needs deep Jewish background. You just need to want to make something.

Tsippy Friend

Co-founder

Tsippy was born and raised in Orange County, California, USA. She holds a Bachelor's degree from San Diego State University and a Master's degree from Tel Aviv University. Tsippy and her family made aliyah to Israel over three years ago and have since built a meaningful life in Tel Aviv, where a strong sense of community inspires her educational work. Tsippy is passionate about making Torah accessible and relevant for both adults and children through art. She has a thoughtful, creative, and deeply empathetic approach to education. Her teaching is grounded in curiosity, connection, and a belief that Jewish learning should feel personal, engaging, and alive.

Lily Morris

Co-founder

Lily was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Education and Judaic Studies from Brandeis University, and in 2021, she made aliyah to Israel. Lily served for two years as a social worker in the IDF, after which she gained hands-on experience in early childhood education across Israeli ganim, developing a deep understanding of child-centered learning. These experiences fueled her commitment to integrating education, Judaism, and creativity. At art&torah, Lily brings this passion to her work, striving to create meaningful and lasting impact within her local community.

Tsippy and Lily are joined by a rotating network of guest educators and artists — Tel Aviv-based sofers, working painters, Torah scholars, ceramicists. Each brings their own practice into the studio.

How we work.

The Jewish calendar drives everything we do. Each month has its own theme, and our classes, studio sessions, and conversations follow it. What we paint in Iyar isn't what we paint in Tammuz — and that's the point.

Weekly Kids Chug runs Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Adult evenings happen twice a month. The studio is open for drop-in work on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, mornings and afternoons. School partnerships and educator trainings happen on a project basis — write to us if you have something in mind.
